Shopify is one of the best and largest online eCommerce platforms by any measure. In reality, it is a software service that allows sellers to create their personalized shops and sell their products to millions of customers worldwide.

Shopify has a limited free trial plan, after which you can upgrade to a paid plan starting at $29 per month.

Depending on where your business is located, collecting payments on Shopify can be tricky.

Currently, Shopify only supports payments from Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Hong Kong SAR, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, New Zealand, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom, and the United States.

The platform also supports payment from some other countries, but you have to use third-party payment platforms.

In this piece, we will show you how you can start your business on Shopify as a US business and start receiving payments for your products.

It is important to note that Shopify only assists you through its software to create your online store.

You have the freedom to set your price, manage inventory, market your products and arrive at shipping costs and taxes.

Shopify will not help you with all these. You are also responsible for shipping your products to your customers.

With all that established, let’s help you create your store.

Sign up for an account on the Shopify website

Signing up on Shopify is fairly easy to do.

You are offered a 14-day free trial to experience the platform and set up your store but you need to choose a monthly plan before you start selling your products or services.

All you need at this point is an email address. Once you are to launch your store you can select a plan that is right for you and begin selling.

However, if you do not select a monthly plan at the end of your free trial, then your store will be paused and you will not be able to continue working on it until you choose a paid plan.

Themes and Shopify Settings

Choose a theme for your store. The kind of products you sell can inform what theme you eventually go for.

Feel free to change and publish different themes to see how they look and feel before you make a decision.

You can also edit your store setting with Shopify to create the experience you want for your customers when they visit your store.

Here you can add images, a logo, color schemes, and more. You can look at other stores that you like and use them as inspiration for your store.

You want your store to be as aesthetically pleasing, appear credible, and as easy to use as possible so your customers are comfortable enough to make purchases.

Products

Now you can add products to your store. You should upload very good product images here.

Add product descriptions with every detail you can think of to make it easy for customers to find and buy your products.

Feel free to research what problems your potential customers have and explain how your products could help them.

Payment

Let’s talk about payments. Shopify allows you to collect payments from customers directly from the platform through Shopify Payments or via third-party payment platforms.

Picking the right payment gateway is important so that your customers, as well as yourself, can enjoy smooth transactions.

Shopify Payments is available to only a select number of countries including the United States. Other countries need to integrate a third-party platform to collect payments on Shopify.

As a US company, you can decide whether to use Shopify Payments or a third party. You get to pick which gateway works best for you and your customers.

While Shopify Payments has a number of requirements, registering a US company easily helps you meet all those requirements.

For example, Shopify Payments and third-party gateways require you to have an Employer Identification Number (EIN) and a US bank account for your US company.

A US company provides you with all of these so meeting the requirements won’t be an issue.

So there you have it. A detailed guide on how you can start your eCommerce business on Shopify and get paid easily even if you don’t live in the US or any of the Shopify-supported countries.
